It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend Georgi Iliev, who died unexpectedly in the early hours of Monday, 27 October 2025.
Georgi joined Premier Plant Hire in February 2015 as an HGV driver, and from the very first day he became a much-loved part of our team. He was known for his exceptional punctuality — always the first to arrive at work, often more than 90 minutes before the day officially began. Georgi cherished those quiet early moments with his coffee and a cigarette before the yard came to life. Once, when I arrived unusually early at 05:30 one morning, he was quite displeased that I had “beaten him to it” — a moment that still makes us smile whenever we remember him.
Georgi was also a football fanatic and a devoted supporter of FC Botev. The first Bulgarian words many of us learnt were his favourite chant: “Samo Botev! Botev zavinagi!” — “Only Botev! Botev forever!” Off the road, Georgi played for and later managed The Crazy Gang, a football team he led with passion and pride. Premier Plant Hire proudly sponsored the team, and many of the trophies they won now decorate our office — a testament to Georgi’s spirit and determination.
When it came to his work, Georgi was a perfectionist. He would meticulously check every line of his paperwork before heading out, and he refused to leave the yard until any discrepancy was corrected. His attention to detail, reliability, and dedication made him an example to all of us.
Georgi leaves behind his long-time partner Svetlana and his son “Little Georgi.” Our thoughts and our hearts are with them in this difficult time. To help ease the immediate financial strain faced by Svetlana, Jennie and Steve have kindly set up a fund for those wishing to contribute. All donations made will be passed directly to Svetlana.:
